Pepitas or pumpkin seeds are a common ingredient in Mexican cooking. Nutritionally they are a power house of potassium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, and several other essential minerals and vitamins. Interestingly they are also high in L-tryptophan, a compound that is known to help you relax, the one in turkey that makes us sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner. There are studies currently underway that are looking into how pepitas might help with anxiety. As a snack or added to salads or other dishes, you will find them a pleasant addition with their mild and unique flavor.
